A Photographer.
People of
Stoke Newington.
A documentary project about the people of Stoke Newington. Having moved here towards the end of 2009, I have been eager to start a project on the area. I have always been deeply interested in people and society and how we use our space. I haven't lived in London before now, and when I moved down I was full of anticipation about how I would find it. How would I find work? Would it just be too hectic? Would I find it to be that lonely place that people say it can be, despite it having a population of over 7 million people?
When I moved to Stoke Newington I immedialtey felt a sense of community and that the place had it's own identity. As a result, I have begun an project called People of Stoke Newington. It's starting point is to photograph shopkeepers and owners of bars, cafes and pubs. I'm beginning on Church Street as it is the hub of Stoke Newington. However, I'm hoping to extend this to include those who are situated outside of Church Street and to others who also contribute to making Stoke Newington the place that it is.
